Supervisory Park Ranger (I)
The incumbent serves as the Chief of Interpretation for Padre Island National Seashore and is a member of the park Management Team. The scope of duties includes planning, managing and coordinating all aspects of the park's interpretation, education and outreach program, as well as providing support for park planning and compliance activities. The incumbent is responsible for supervision of personnel, recruitment and hiring staff, visitor center and visitor services operations, environmental education, the park's social media program, interpretive media and park publications, writing and distribution of press releases, exhibit planning and development and development of interpretive programs for internal and external audiences. The incumbent serves as the park's Public Information Officer and spokesperson for all park events and programs. Incumbent is the liaison with the park's cooperating association, Western National Park Association. The incumbent has a key role in collaboration and partnership efforts with a variety of Federal, state and local agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, private and professional organizations, and establishing and managing a Friends Group that serves all park divisions. Corpus Christi has all the amenities of a small city, including a wide variety of housing, shopping, and recreational opportunities, including an aquarium, museums, sporting events, concerts, and botanical gardens. Several school districts, hospitals, and universities/colleges are located within 30 miles of the park boundary. There is no regularly scheduled public or commercial transportation to the park and the nearest gas station and other amenities are located approximately 13 miles north of the park entrance. At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
Managing a complex interpretive/education operation to support mission goals. This includes:
organizing work; setting priorities and goals; writing standard operating procedures; developing and presenting interpretive training; evaluating interpretive services; determining resource requirements; supervision; managing multiple budgets; managing facilities; coordinating housing; developing long and short-range strategies to achieve park and division goals; coordinating with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitoring progress, and measuring results and evaluating outcomes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
